Muzzling Faith
Ontario, Canada has banned Pit Bulls and all
Pit Bull mixes. Dogs that resided in Ontario prior to the ban
may continue to live, but under a strict regime. Among other
injustices, all Pit Bulls and any dog that looks like it MIGHT
be a Pit Bull mix must be muzzled in public at all times,
regardless of the dog's temperament. Many dogs do not like the
muzzle, understandably, and many muzzled dogs have been
attacked by off leash dogs and sustained serious injuries
because they were unable to defend themselves. Muzzles make it
difficult for dogs to eat, drink, and also makes it impossible to
play a game of ball or tug of war.
Faith is a sweet, smart little girl unfortunate
enough to live in Ontario. She has been in foster care for
months. In the photos below, she's in obedience class. Faith
won the competition for the fastest sit, down, sit, stand
combination. Faith's handler says, "My
favorite part of class is seeing everyone avoid me on the
first day and then beating them at all the challenges. Usually
by the end of the session everyone loves them so at least we
are helping to chance some minds."
Here, Faith holds a sit-stay.

Faith calmly hangs out with another unfortunate, persecuted
bully in Ontario.

What a pretty girl, and what an impressive medal! What an
irony that such an obedience star should be forced to wear a
cage around her face simply because she was born in the wrong
place with the wrong looks. We hope Faith finds herself a home
someplace else, with people who love her, so she can spend the
rest of her days free and happy, able to go out with her
family without a muzzle and do all the things dogs love to do.
