TULSA, Okla. (AP) - An Oklahoma Natural Gas Company meter reader has a broken arm after being attacked by a dog in Tulsa.

The worker's name hasn't been released.

Tulsa animal control investigator Jake Wilson says the meter reader had jumped a fence in the back yard of the home to read the meter Thursday when he was attacked by a 140-pound bull mastiff.

The dog bit into the man's arm and didn't let go until the worker began stabbing the animal in the head with a screwdriver.

Wilson says the dog is under quarantine for 10 days and the owner likely faces a $75 fine because it isn't neutered. He says the dog probably won't be considered vicious because the attack was inside the owner's fenced property.

That of a symmetrical animal, showing great strength, endurance, and alertness; powerfully built but active. The Bullmastiff breed is one of great strength, endurance and alertness. They are natural guardians of the home and will not back down from a fight. They are known to be loving toward their masters and normally very gentle, cheerful and calm. With strangers, they are rather aloof. Known also as the "gamekeeper's dog" this breed was bred to accompany gamekeepers helping to track and overpower poachers.
