Oklahoma: This is an example of Breed Discrimination in the media

Considering that there ARE other vicious dog hearings involving more than just attacks on cats, I'm sure (unless, of course, they only enforce it with certain breeds *ahem), this seems a big stretch for a newspaper to actually search the vicious dog court records to find *something* that says "Pit Bull" they can report on. I guess all the vicious dog hearings involving German Shepherds or Labs aren't newsworthy.

Pit bulls ordered euthanized by judge

Two pit bulls dogs were recently seized and ordered euthanized by the municipal court judge after being declared “vicious and dangerous,” Municipal Court Clerk's Office records show.

Records indicate the owner of the dogs had previously been cited for dog at large, and that the pit bull dogs were seized on Jan. 3.

Reportedly, the dogs had attacked and killed several cats in the neighborhood.

On Jan. 10, Municipal Court Judge Steve Conatser ordered that the dogs be euthanized after hearing evidence presented by a City of Bartlesville animal control officer.

The dogs' owner, who resides in the 1400 block of South Elm, may appeal the decision in district court within 10 days of the hearing, city officials say. Notice of the appeal must be presented to the Municipal Court Clerk's Office, but to date, no notice of an appeal has been filed with the city.

Court records show that numerous citations have been issued by the city's Animal Control Department regarding dogs at large and other violations outlined in the city's recently revised animal ordinances.

Officials say there is no way to monitor the breeds of the dogs for which citations were issued, however, as that information is not always recorded.

You've got to be kidding. Give cats a "leash law!"
