Bash Dibra Bash
A celebrity-oriented magazine showed a photo of Kevin Federline with his new blue and white Pit Bull puppy. The magazine also quoted Bash Dibra, an author and supposed "celebrity pet trainer" as stating, "Pits can make safe pets, but they are bred to be tough, which can cause them to snap. Taking into account their baby situation, a pit bull wouldn't be my first choice."
Celebrities take note -- Bash Dibra has evidenced his woeful lack of knowledge in this area of canine behavior and breed predisposition. Pit Bull toughness does not make for snappish dogs. In fact, this "toughness" actually means well-bred Pit Bulls are less likely to snap than other breeds. They often easily withstand ear pullings and tail stompings by young toddlers. In fact, having grown up with Pit Bulls, and several of them at once, I can't recall a single time any of our dogs snapped at me, though as a child, I did some seriously stupid things to them.
These dogs are referred to in England as "nanny dogs" for a good reason. They are NOT snappish. In fact, they are generally wonderfully tolerant with children.
Of course, as with any breed, unscrupulous owners and breeders can produce abnormally aggressive dogs. I have no idea from where Kevin adopted his new canine companion, but it is most certainly ignorant to imply that a couple is being less than responsible as parents simply because they've chosen a particular breed of dog. Wondering where the dog came from, if the couple did their research, and suggesting early obedience training for their new companion would've been perfectly reasonable responses, but simply focusing on breed amounts to nothing but ignorant speculation.
Incidentally, Bash, you know that woman in France who received the first face transplant after she was mauled by a dog? The dog in question was her own Labrador Retriever.
