San Francisco - Breaking the Law to Enforce a Law

On its webpage, San Francisco Animal Care and Control has stolen images from AKC's website and used them, without permission, to promote its breed specific law targeting all "Pit Bulls." Visitors to this site will see the familiar tan and white image the AKC uses to represent the American Staffordshire Terrier along with the black and white cartoon image of the AKC's Staffordshire Bull Terrier. There are also a variety of other images, all unattributed, all depicting dogs San Francisco considers to be Pit Bulls. Some of these photos might even belong to you.

CHAKO informed AKC of the copyright infringement. Below is AKC's emailed response, dated May 25, 2006:

Dawn,

I wanted to let you know that our legal department has sent a cease and desist letter to the City of San Francisco regarding the use of our graphics on their site. Mail from here to CA can take upwards of a week, but the images should be removed soon. Thank you for taking the time to send this to us, and if you come across anything else like this, please send it along. Thank you.

San Francisco officials seem so eager to get rid of Pit Bulls, they are obviously willing to break the law to do so.
The offending images, as of this date, are still up at http://www.sfgov.org/site/acc_index.asp?id=37670 (Once San Francisco gets AKC's letter, they may be taken down).
