Response to When Public Officials Go Bad
Response to When Public Officials Go Bad
While there is a concern with dog attacks as it obvious there is a problem, Kory Nelson IS making this personal. A man on a mission to destroy dogs and goes so far to take it on the road, like some one with an alien conspiracy like on the X Files!
A little off topic from Breed Specific Legislation (BSL), but last night I saw a show about METH and how the use of METH is now an epidemic, not a fad drug. It's now beat heroin because it's very addicting, and I worked in substance abuse for a while, so I have seen what this drug does to people. People who are lawyers, nurses, and pilots -- there is no class when it comes to Meth. While that may be true with any drug, Meth has all drugs beat, it's a drug that lives up to "one time and your hooked".
The program showed law enforcement engaged in meth lab busts and showed how they have to wear chemical suits, how the places they bust have booby traps by the owners of the labs, some places even have a shot gun fixed with string so that when a door is opened, the string is pulled and the gun goes off to shoot anyone walking through that door. The materials made to use meth are so dangerous, they are environmentally toxic. One guy who saw the police coming to his meth lab poured a batch he was cooking out the window, and it stripped the paint off the house.
Now in some states like mine (Arizona), when getting a prescribed drug like Tylenol 3 for a cold, you have to be finger printed and show your driver's license in order to get the drug. Also flu medicine is locked behind counters now, and how much one buys is questioned, as these things are used to make meth.
But that isn't working, people are finding other things to use, the meth drug is spreading faster then any drug in history and faster then BSL.
My point to all of this is?
This is a serious problem and I know that Denver has a huge meth problem!
Meth causes psychosis in people and causes some people who use it to commit very disturbing crimes. Kory Nelson going on his world tour with banning dogs should be laughed out of the office with problems like meth that we have in this country as well as around the world! All of his time invested banning a dog, meanwhile he has a dog of a breed that also has attacked and even killed in some cases, all of his energy invested in his pit bull hysteria has to make some one out there wonder about the state of mind this guy is in.
You used a key word, personal -- anyone with half a brain can see this guy has some personal issues with pit bulls. If anyone is familiar or got more familiar with the meth epidemic, they would wonder what in the hell is someone doing investing so much time against dogs?
I use the meth example because it is a very scary problem, and I dont want to personalize this, but I lost a brother to the drug. He can't get off it, and is probably in a hotel room right now shooting it up. I have seen first hand what this drug can do and have talked with users trying to get clean when I worked at the substance abuse clinic. It's not an easy drug to shake, and a lot of people failed and never came back.
One can argue why all of us fight BSL and invest the time, well my argument to that personally is that with people like Kory Nelson running around and even getting some people who agree with him, ( Ruagi of Chicago even uses his ban as a good example to follow) our rights are being invaded, and as tax payers, we should worry about some one in a high position freaking out on dogs when we have some very disturbing problems out there that need more time and care, like the drug meth.
If Kory Nelson went on an anti-meth tour instead of an anti-dog tour, he would have my respect, as well as the respect of other people who have seen the bad doings this drug causes. I am leaving out the arguments on how our dogs can be good pets and dogs in general, but just comparing meth to pit bulls in a general way.
Meth kills people way more than any dog does, and if you like dogs or not that is the truth.
